Getting here

From Langford to the office

Langford sits on the West Shore, connected to downtown Victoria by the Trans-Canada through the Colwood interchange. It is one of the fastest-growing communities in British Columbia, and anyone who lives there knows the trip into town is governed almost entirely by the time of day you make it.

Which is why I'll say the useful thing first rather than last: for West Shore couples, online sessions are frequently the difference between therapy that happens and therapy that gets rescheduled twice and then quietly dropped. In person is available and welcome. It just shouldn't be the reason you don't start.

What brings couples in

  • A long commute that eats the hours you used to spend together
  • Arguments that start about logistics and end somewhere much older
  • A newer house, a bigger mortgage, and more pressure than you expected
  • One of you shutting down rather than fighting
  • Wanting to fix this before it becomes something harder to fix

The work itself

Change you can feel, without a second commute

The work is the same whether we do it in the room or on a screen: find the pattern, understand what each of you brings to it, and practise something different until it holds. I work in Relational Life Therapy — direct, warm, and aimed at behaviour that changes at home rather than insight that stays in the office.

If the pattern in your house is one of you going quiet and the other pushing harder, that's one of the most common shapes this takes, and it's workable. There's more on it in therapy for emotional shutdown and anger and reactivity.

And if the drive is the thing standing in the way, it doesn't have to be. I work by secure video with couples anywhere in British Columbia, and the work translates better to a screen than most people expect. Plenty of couples do a mix: in person when it suits the week, online when it doesn't.

Questions

Questions from Langford

Do you have a Langford or West Shore office?

No. In-person sessions are at 733 Johnson Street in downtown Victoria. For most West Shore couples, secure video sessions are the more practical option, and they work well.

Does online couples therapy actually work?

In my experience it works better than people expect. You're both in your own environment, which sometimes makes the honest conversation easier rather than harder. Some couples do a mix — in person when the week allows, online when it doesn't.

Can we book outside working hours?

Evening and later-afternoon appointments exist and go first. Ask early in the free consultation and we'll see what's open.

What if we've tried counselling before and it didn't help?

That's common, and it's worth talking about specifically. Often what didn't work was an open-ended process with no clear method. I'll tell you plainly what we'd be doing and how we'd know whether it's working.

What does it cost?

Couples sessions are 90 minutes at $300; individual sessions are 60 minutes at $200. The first 15-minute consultation is free.

You don't have to figure this out alone.

The consultation is 15 minutes, by phone, and free. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what you're hoping will change, and whether I'm the right person to help. No preparation, no pressure to book.
