Getting here

From Colwood to the office

Colwood sits on the West Shore between Esquimalt and Langford, taking in Royal Bay and the area around Royal Roads. The route downtown runs along the Old Island Highway or through the Colwood interchange onto the Trans-Canada, and like everywhere on the West Shore, the time of day decides how long it takes.

In-person sessions at the Johnson Street office are available and welcome. For most Colwood couples, though, secure video sessions are the practical answer — and the work holds up well on a screen.

What brings couples in

  • A newer house, a bigger mortgage, and pressure you didn't plan for
  • Young kids, and the years where the relationship gets last claim on the day
  • The same fight, week after week, in slightly different clothes
  • Living efficiently alongside each other rather than actually together
  • Wanting to change this before the kids learn it

The work itself

Practical work, on a schedule that survives real life

Most couples arrive late — often years after the pattern set in. The good news is that the pattern is usually simpler than it feels from inside. We find the loop, we get honest about what each of you is doing to keep it going, and we practise a different move until it becomes available to you under pressure.

This is Relational Life Therapy: warm, direct, and aimed at what happens in your kitchen rather than what you understand in my office. If you're in the young-children years, we'll build something that fits the reality of your week instead of an ideal one.

And if the drive is the thing standing in the way, it doesn't have to be. I work by secure video with couples anywhere in British Columbia, and the work translates better to a screen than most people expect. Plenty of couples do a mix: in person when it suits the week, online when it doesn't.

Questions

Questions from Colwood

Do you see people in Colwood?

In-person sessions are at 733 Johnson Street in downtown Victoria. For Colwood and the wider West Shore, secure online sessions are usually the more realistic option and they work well.

Can we do this with young kids at home?

Many couples do. Online sessions after bedtime are common, and so are mid-day slots. What matters more than the timing is that it's a slot you can actually keep week after week.

Is it worth coming in if only one of us is committed?

Yes, often. One partner changing their side of the pattern changes the pattern. It also tends to make it easier for the other to join later, without being dragged.

How many sessions will we need?

Some couples need a focused six to ten. Others work longer on something deeper. We'll review pacing and progress as we go rather than letting it drift.

What does it cost?

Couples sessions are 90 minutes at $300; individual sessions are 60 minutes at $200. The first 15-minute consultation is free.
