Where you might be
After the discovery
- Reeling from a betrayal you just found out about
- Stuck in the loop of questions, images, and mistrust
- The one who had the affair, and doesn't know how to make it right
- Trying to decide whether the relationship can survive this
- Wanting to rebuild, but not sure it's even possible
An affair is a rupture, not always an ending
The discovery of an affair is one of the most painful things a couple can face — and it doesn't have to be the last chapter. Many couples not only survive infidelity but build something more honest than they had before. It takes truth, accountability, and time, in that order.
I won't minimize what happened, and I won't pile on shame. I'll help you both do the hard, specific work of repair.
How the work goes
Truth, accountability, then rebuilding
Early sessions are about stabilizing: containing the bleeding, making sense of what happened, and establishing the honesty that recovery requires. The partner who strayed takes real, non-defensive accountability — not grovelling, but genuine understanding of the impact. The hurt partner gets room for the pain and the questions. From there we rebuild trust deliberately, and we get underneath the affair to what was already fragile in the relationship, so the repair actually holds. If part of the injury is silence and shutdown, this piece on going quiet may resonate. This is Relational Life Therapy: direct, compassionate, and unafraid of the truth.
Questions
Affair recovery questions
Can a relationship really survive an affair?
Often, yes. It's some of the hardest work couples do, but many come through it with a more honest, more connected relationship than they had before. It takes accountability from the partner who strayed and courage from both.
Do you take the side of the betrayed partner?
I take accountability seriously and the relationship seriously. The partner who had the affair needs to own the impact fully. But recovery also means understanding, without excusing, what was fragile in the relationship — that's work for both of you.
What if I can't stop the images and questions?
That's an extremely common part of the aftermath, not a sign you're failing. We work with it directly — it usually eases as trust is rebuilt and the story is fully, honestly told.
Should we come together or separately?
Usually together, and sometimes with individual sessions alongside. We'll find what fits your situation.
