Marriage Counselling in Victoria, BC
Marriage counselling in Victoria, BC
For married couples who still care, but keep landing in the same painful place.
Is this you?
When the marriage feels stuck
- The same argument, on a loop, for months or years
- More like efficient roommates than partners
- Conversations that turn into conflict, or don't happen at all
- Resentment quietly building under the day-to-day
- Wondering whether this is just what a long marriage becomes
It's rarely about the thing you're fighting about
Most marriages don't run aground on one big issue. They wear down through a pattern — a loop of pursue and withdraw, criticize and defend — that repeats until you're arguing about how you argue. Marriage counselling helps you see that loop from the outside and learn to interrupt it.
I work in Relational Life Therapy: honest, direct, and on the side of the marriage.
How the work goes
Practical, honest, and paced to your marriage
We start by understanding the marriage and what brought you in — from both of you. Early on, we name the pattern keeping you stuck and the deeper needs underneath it on each side. Then we practise different ways of speaking, responding, and repairing, in real time. Along the way we check whether the marriage is actually changing. Some couples come for a focused stretch; others stay longer to rebuild after a deeper rupture. Either way, the goal isn't to win the argument — it's to stop needing to have it. This is the same work described on my couples therapy page, focused on married partners.
Questions
Marriage counselling questions
What's the difference between marriage counselling and couples therapy?
Very little in practice — the terms overlap. Marriage counselling usually just means couples work with married partners. I do the same relational, pattern-focused work either way.
Do we have to be in crisis to come?
No, and it's usually easier if you're not. Coming in tired of the same pattern, rather than at the breaking point, tends to make the work faster and less painful.
What if only one of us wants to come?
You can start alone. A lot shifts when one partner begins to change their side of the pattern, and it often makes it easier for the other to join later.
How long does marriage counselling take?
It depends on what you're working on — some couples need a focused six to ten sessions, others longer to heal a deeper rupture. We'll talk openly about pacing and progress.
Do you offer marriage counselling online in BC?
Yes. In person in Greater Victoria and securely online anywhere in British Columbia.
You don't have to figure this out alone.
The consultation is 15 minutes, by phone, and free. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what you're hoping will change, and whether I'm the right person to help. No preparation, no pressure to book.
