Getting here
From Oak Bay to the office
Oak Bay sits directly east of downtown Victoria, which makes it the easiest municipality in the region to get here from. Most routes in run along Fort Street or Oak Bay Avenue and land you a few blocks from the office on Johnson Street. Evening appointments avoid the school-run window entirely.
I'll send parking and arrival details when we book, so the first session doesn't start with you circling the block.
What brings couples in
- The same argument, running on a loop for months or years
- Living more like efficient roommates than partners
- One of you has quietly checked out, and you both know it
- A long marriage that's gone flat rather than hostile
- Kids grown or nearly grown, and a house that suddenly feels quiet
The work itself
Direct, warm, and aimed at your kitchen table
Most couples don't come apart over one big issue. They wear down through a pattern — pursue and withdraw, criticise and defend — that repeats until you're arguing about how you argue. The work is seeing that loop clearly, understanding what each of you is doing to keep it going, and practising something different while I'm in the room. This is Relational Life Therapy: honest without being harsh, warm without being soft.
Some couples come for a focused stretch of six to ten sessions. Others stay longer to rebuild after something deeper. We'll talk openly about pacing.
And if the drive is the thing standing in the way, it doesn't have to be. I work by secure video with couples anywhere in British Columbia, and the work translates better to a screen than most people expect. Plenty of couples do a mix: in person when it suits the week, online when it doesn't.
Questions
Questions from Oak Bay
Do you have an office in Oak Bay?
No — I see people at 733 Johnson Street in downtown Victoria, which is a short trip from anywhere in Oak Bay. Online sessions are available anywhere in BC if that's easier.
Can we get an evening appointment?
Often, yes. Evenings and later-afternoon slots fill first, so it's worth asking early. Book a free 15-minute consult and we'll find something that works.
What if my partner won't come?
You can start on your own. A great deal shifts when one partner begins changing their side of the pattern, and it frequently makes it easier for the other to join later.
How much does couples counselling cost?
Couples sessions are 90 minutes at $300; individual sessions are 60 minutes at $200. Full details are on the fees page, and the first 15-minute consultation is free.
Is this covered by insurance?
Many extended health plans cover counselling, but coverage depends on your specific plan and on the practitioner's registration. Check your plan details before you book, and ask me directly if you want to know exactly where my registration stands.
